What Is Hypoglycemia?


Hypoglycemia is low blood sugar. All small breed dogs can experience sudden drops in blood sugar and need close monitoring.


Feeding Schedule
• Free Feed (leave food always readily available)
• Never skip meals
• Offer a bedtime snack
• Use high-quality small breed food


Warning Signs
• Shaking or trembling
• Weakness
• Confusion
• Pale gums
• Trouble walking
• Seizures (emergency)


Emergency Steps
1. Stay calm
2. Rub Nutri-Cal "preferred" but also can use honey or corn syrup on gums
3. Offer food once alert
4. Keep warm
5. Call vet if no improvement


Activity and Care
• Avoid overexertion
• Keep warm
• Reduce stress
• Monitor during routine changes


Always Remember

• Puppies and seniors are higher risk
• Untreated hypoglycemia can be life-threatening
